QUIVER, FERN

We venture through tunnels under city.
Wear faux fur coats & felt gloves to fend off damp
& manage to survive.
Small fern fronds sleep underfoot.

We burn candles to read maps.
Fear air & skin.
Hide bottles of vodka under subway tracks.
Children quiver in pink muddy boots.

We share found fruit & tubs of butter.
We think this may end.
We wrap black masks around our mouths.
Sirens sound from above.
